Back to Church Sunday is the single largest local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism – that we should invite someone we already know to something we love, invite our friend to church.
Most of us know people who used to go to church but for a variety of reasons they have stopped going. Feedback we have received suggests that many of these people would be open to an invitation to return. Last year one guest commented, ‘I was thinking of coming back, but just needed a reason to do so.

Through the provision of resources and training, Back to Church Sunday aims to help equip local churches and their members to welcome those who are important to them back to church. There are sections on this site with material for Dioceses, for local churches and for individuals wanting to come back to church.

On Back to Church Sunday(BTCS) last year 600 churches across 19 Anglican dioceses welcomed an estimated 12,000 people back to church. That’s an extra 20 people per church! 95% of churches who participated in the survey said that they would like to do BTCS again.

Although many Christians find it hard to share their faith, it is much easier to do so when they are talking to someone who already has some experience of church.

Two surveys carried out in Australia last year came up with some interesting results:

68% of Australians say that they are Christians (McCrindle)
49% of Australians think that Jesus was the most important figure in history
72% think he was a ‘good influence on the world’

And even amongst non-Christians:
22% consider Jesus to be history’s most important figure
32% consider Him to be the ‘Son of God’
